Welcome to the Underrepresented Student Alliance (USA) homepage at the Albany Medical College (AMC)! USA is an innovative coalition comprised of student organizations that represent identities and individuals that have been historically underrepresented or excluded in the field of medicine. September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month! In its honor, the Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is hosting its second annual Sickle Cell 5k Walk on Saturday, September 25, 2021.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness about Sickle Cell Disease, support the people in our local community affected by the disease, and fundraise for a new Albany Med initiative called Sickle Cell Superheroes. This initiative will support the Sickle Cell Clinic at The Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders, as well as the families of affected individuals in our community. All proceeds from the event will be donated directly to the Melodies Center.

Fellow Students of Albany Medical College,

Today, the Albany Medical College Underrepresented Student Alliance (USA), in solidarity with the Student National Medical Association (SNMA), Latinx Medical Student Association (LMSA), Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP), First Generation Students in Medicine (1GMED), Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA), Muslim Student Association (MSA), and American Medical Womens Association (AMWA), come together to express our deepest grief. After months of enduring the impact of COVID-19 — which amounted to disproportionate mortality rates in the Black and Latinx communities, as well as blatant acts of discrimination towards the Asian-American community — it feels both somber and exhausting to write this letter regarding the perpetual devaluement of Black lives in America...

USA Hosts Diversity Week 2021

August 9-13, 2021

The Underrepresented Student Alliance hosted Diversity Week events during the first year Orientation to introduce our organizations. The week culminated in a celebrratory Food Truck event in Washington Park. We hope everyone had a great time and wish a warm welcome to the Class of 2025!
